Curated by head designer, Gary Aspden, adidas SPEZIAL has stamped its 3 stripes authority all across the world since it officially launched back in 2014. Reviving original adidas styles like the New York, the München and the Indoor Super to name a few as well as recently collaborating with Liam Gallagher with the Padiham LG SPZL, adidas SPEZIAL has built a niche loyal following over the last 5 years. Drawing inspiration from archive silhouettes, subcultures and the original casual movement in the North West of England in the 1980s, SPEZIAL now comes to Blackburn for an exhibition of classic 3 stripes, football photography and Acid House inspired artwork.
Speaking about the forthcoming 3 stripes event Gary Aspden said; “I grew up in Darwen and spent most of my formative years in Blackburn. The experiences of my upbringing and youth have always been a source of inspiration for the adidas Spezial range that I design and curate. The creative team who work on Spezial are all from the area so getting involved with the British Textile Biennal whilst supporting Nightsafe seemed a perfect fit.” Opening from 4th October 2019 to 20th October 2019 the adidas SPEZIAL Blackburn exhibition will feature a collection of classic City Series silhouettes and archives of the adidas SPEZIAL ranges. You can check out the SPEZIAL exhibition at the Cotton Exchange, King William Street, Blackburn from Friday 4th October 2019.
