This August 2019, marks the 70th anniversary of adidas and 70 years since Adolf (Adi) Dassler started the German company ‘Adi Dassler adidas Sportschuhfabrik’ with 47 employees in the German town of Herzogenaurach. To mark such a milestone, adidas have now unveiled their brand new ‘Arena Building’ headquarters in the World of Sports complex in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Over the last 70s years adidas have given us the first screw in stud football boots, legendary tracksuits like the Beckenbauer alongside the latest innovations in footwear from classic styles like the Stan Smith to modern day Yeezy sneaker releases.
“We are proud of our history and our roots in Herzogenaurach. Today we have two reasons to celebrate: The first is that adidas can look back on 70 years of success. And secondly, following the occupation of Arena, all our Herzogenaurach-based employees now work together on the same campus, ‘World of Sports’. Our work environment is unrivaled anywhere in the world: We offer modern buildings, an attractive working environment designed specifically for our unique adidas culture and, of course, a variety of sports facilities on our campus. This puts us in a perfect position for the future, continuing on our international growth track and making our product range even more sustainable.” adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted
To launch the new building space, adidas hip hop pioneers from the 80s, Run DMC, were invited to play an exclusive set for the adidas staff alongside guest appearances from Pharrell Williams and Stan Smith. The building will play host to 2000 employees in total, with a football stadium like appearance the building gives a nod to Dasslers football heritage which spans all the way back to the 1950s. Featuring 67 filigree columns, giving the appearance of floating on air, the futuristic 3 stripes HQ is a piece of architectural excellence.
